Task and Finish Group on Participation in the Arts in Wales

Inquiry into Participation in the Arts in Wales

Response from Participant

1. What kind of arts activities do you currently participate in (for example, drama, music, arts, writing, crafts, filmmaking, dancing)?

dance, reading (i.e. literature, which I do for pleasure, not for work or education)

2. Why do you participate in arts activities?

Enjoyment. Inspirational teacher. Great group of women. Like the sensation of movement.

3. Has arts provision been withdrawn in your area because of budget cuts?

Unable to say. There never seems to be that much cultural activity supported by Caerphilly CBC. They seem to do sport, or big events. But am aware of ACW investment in Head for Arts

4. If so, how has this affected you?

My dance class isn't subsidised through public funds, so no affect.

5. Do you think that people have enough opportunity to participate in arts activities in your area?

Difficult to judge. Not aware of many opportunities in my immediate area. There is a good dance school nearby (all ages) but the prices too high for me (they have to run a business though).

6. Would anything help you to participate more in the arts?

I've heard of a great community choir in Caerphilly I'd like to join but, at the moment, it's a bit far to travel. So having an inspirational choral leader in my local area would help.

7. What might stop you from taking part in arts activities (for example, accessibility)?

Price - I'm prepared to pay up to £5 for a session. Distance to travel - this is more to do with the time, than the travelling.
